We found Kevin through an internet search as we were not in a position to ask friends or relatives for a recommendation because our specific requirements were quite specialised. We were looking for a tax advisor that had knowledge of not only UK tax procedures but international as well.

Kevin immediately came across as a consummate professional who had in depth knowledge of tax implications for expatriates, residency in UK and repercussions for investments in the UK for those who were not residents.

Our needs for information were quite select and complicated, Kevin relayed information to us that was at our level of understanding (we are not au fait with UK tax laws at all) and was able to provide us with information regarding Sri Lankan tax regulations as well, the country we semi-reside in. In addition to the residency issues and the tax implications this brought about, Kevin advised us regarding property ownership in the UK and the consequences regarding ownership, rental income from the property and what would happen when we decided to sell the property in the future regarding tax.

As a chartered tax adviser (CTA) and member of the Association of

Taxation Technicians (ATT), with over 30 years tax experience,

my job is to:

 

  • Learn the rules

  • Keep up date with them

  • Apply those rules so that clients meet their legal obligations but pay the minimum amount of tax at the same time.

 

Whether it is compliance or advisory services that you require, my aim is simple:

 

‘It is to ensure that, within the rules, you pay the minimum amount of tax whilst remaining fully compliant with your tax reporting obligations’.

 

 

 

 

 

A little bit of my background:

 

  • I have over 30 years experience working in the tax profession.

  • I have worked for HMRC (both for the Collector of Taxes & the Inspector of Taxes) as well as in practice, so I know both sides of the fence.

  • I am a member of the Chartered Institute of taxation (CIOT), the Association of Taxation Technicians (ATT) and an affiliate of the Royal Institute Chartered Surveyors (RICS).

  • I have been a virtual member of the CIOT's Property Taxes Sub-Committee since 2010. The aim of the CIOT committees is to identify weaknesses and anomalies in legislation and drafting and make representations to HMRC/Treasury – effectively, making sure the legislation is fit for purpose.

  • Between 2011 & 2013 I provided VAT recovery services to the NHS which has the largest property portfolio in Europe (according to the NHS Sustainability Development Unit), so you can rest assured, that a few extra zeroes at the end of a transaction, will not be daunting to me.

  • Although some sections of the press & parliamentary select committees would have you believe otherwise, I am one of many tax practitioners who are intent on guiding individuals and small businesses through the vast myriad of tax legislation helping them to legitimately save tax rather than assisting multinationals avoid paying the tax the Government says they owe, within the spirit, if not the letter, of the law.

  • I have, for over ten years, regularly given free surgeries to pensioners with tax problems via the charity Tax Help for Older People http://www.taxvol.org.uk/ and brought tax anomalies to the attention of The Low Income Tax Reform Group http://www.litrg.org.uk/ whose aim is to ‘persuade politicians and HM Revenue & Customs to make the tax system easier and fairer for all’.

 

And so to 2010 and the setting up of Property Tax Advisers, initially, to provide capital allowance valuations. However, it soon became apparent to me from the enquiries I was regularly receiving that there was a clear need for general property tax planning, advice and reporting at a reasonable price.

 

Following my spell advising the NHS (see above) Property Tax Advisers became Tax Facts Limited with my wife Samantha in 2013- (registered at Companies House under number 08795905) to offer assistance to individuals & businesses (large or small) with property tax related issues.

 

We are also happy to work alongside accountants who may deal with the day to day affairs of property traders & investors but may feel a little uncomfortable with tax planning.
